Meirion says: I was looking after my parents' home whilst they were away on holiday. You know, the usual thing -- watering the plants, feeding the fish in the pond, filling the bird feeders. The first day I turned up and started to fill the watering can and this kitten dived from the undergrowth, scaring the living daylights out of me in the process. My parents’ garden is very lush with far too many hiding places… ;-) The kitten proceeded to entertain me for over an hour. His antics were hilarious. He was obviously practicing his hunting skills with me as his prey, though during breaks from his stalking there were times of pure play. His "lair" was my mother’s blue bench. From there he could keep a good view of me and dive into several areas of cover in order to set up an ambush amongst the various terracotta pots and flower beds.
I'm so glad that I was carrying my camera on this day. We had a lot of fun together and he was a very cooperative “model” with quite a few cute poses. He appeared to be very well cared for, clean and well fed. He was wearing a pretty little collar with a name canister attached so I was happy that he wasn’t a lost stray or abandoned. When I rang my mother that evening and mentioned the kitten, she put my mind further to rest, saying that he was a regular visitor over the last few weeks and was a neighbour's new “baby” from just up the road.
