spygirl says: Penny-Plops! is our polka-dot kitten, now almost seven months old. She has an amazing character and is, as all kittens are, very inquisitive. When she was very small she enjoyed sleeping in my hat which she has now grown too big for! Currently, she enjoys climbing (on our shoulders, ladders, the clothes horse), watching out of the window, and playing chase and a peeping game we call "Peep and Squeak." In two months' time she will be able to venture outside. I'm very excited for her! She lives with her sister Lana-Banana (or Mushroom!) and our five-year-old cat Emily.

Not the smartest idea to let her outside. Keep her inside safe and sound. She is precious and not to be taken lightly.

So many beautiful pictures of Penny-Plops, but this one really speaks to me. What a beautiful expression of love & trust. Why must she venture outside? She appears to be perfectly happy in her loving home, and outdoors is where most accidents happen..

Oh I so hope you have changed you mind and kept her and ALL your cats inside where they will live longer, happier, healthier lives. These are proven facts.

I agree, such wonderful creatures should be kept inside. I take care of the ferals(all spayed and neutered) in the back of the apt. complex and have lost 3 adults and it just tears me apart sometimes. I'm sure one was killed by a coyote but I don't know what happened to the other two. I have since acquired 2 more, and I can actually pet one of them. They seem content living on my patio but I know one day they will disappear so all I can do is love them now and give them the best life I can. If I could bring them inside, I would but they are just too wild. I have one kitty inside and that's where she is going to stay!

She is such a beautiful girl with the most soulful expressions of love. A kitty to treasure always.

I have six cats and would love to let all of them outside as there is so much extra quality of life they would gain - yet I won't because too many things could happen. Soon, I hopefully will be buying a house where I can create a fenced/covered area where they can be totally protected and get some outside time.

Oh she is such a precious girl, but please don't let her outside--she's counting on you to keep her safe. A big wonderful window so she can view the world is plenty--she doesn't need to venture out at all. Please do the right thing.

P.S. This picture is so sweet--she doesn't need to go outside! She has everything she needs indoors!

Count me in the "keep her inside" group. Outside is where cats get FIV, fleas, ticks, or worms, and where predators can find them, or where drivers might not see them in time. Cats are way much safer inside.

If Penny Plops is happy inside, then leave her in please. She seems contented enough to look out the window here. Cute polka dot cattie!

I agree with all the other comments. Keep her inside. It is a nasty and dangerous world outside for cats. People and children do awful things to outside kittehs.

You will do as you please, but Penny is counting on you. What gorgeous coloration she has. Don't let us know she has been run over or tortured or sickened or whatever because you think to accommodate her wild side by letting her outside. Just go away quietly.

MJ is right. That reminds me of a time 10 or 15 years ago when my neighbor (the cat lady) had several cats, two of whom were allowed to come and go as they pleased... until one day when Sandy, a beautoful light ginger tabby, came home missing a large rectangle of skin/fur from his back. I have trouble accepting that anyone could be so cruel as to skin a living cat just for a block of fur. I don't know that it was a human, but I have no idea what else could have done that without killing and eating the cat inside the fur.

YES ABSOLUTELY DO NOT LET EITHER OF THESE TWO BEAUTIES OUTSIDE. From this picture you can see the street. MUCH TOO DANGEROUS!!!!!!!! I used to live in the middle of fields and thought my cats were safe outdoors but too many of them met with accidents and since then I KEEP MY BABIES SAFE INDOORS. With plenty of toys and scratching posts, etc. and most importantly, LOVE.

I feel the need to counterbalance all of the "DON'T LET THEM OUT!!!" posts. Every living situation is different. In your case, it might be perfectly fine for them to be indoor/outdoor cats. If you live by a railroad, as one of the pictures might suggest, then no, they shouldn't go out. But simply looking at these few pictures and saying "see, perfectly happy cat, no need to go out!" is inappropriate. I can take pictures of my parent's cat when he's happy inside, but it doesn't show the stir-crazy side of when he hasn't been out for 24+ hours. If you've ever experience "cabin fever" during the winter, imagine spending your entire life indoors. Yes, indoor cats live longer, potentially healthier lives. But happier? It depends on the cat. For some cats, windows might be enough. But for others, IF you live in a safe area (the first consideration!), you shouldn't be looked down upon as an unworthy cat owner just because you cater to letting them explore their natural habitat.

If you can build a safe enclosure for them to run around in that is great, it just takes time and money and a good design for all.My Cats are very happy inside, but friends take their cats out for a walk on a leash.

Agree with keeping her safe inside, I'm relieved I made that decision every time I come across the result a road accident.

I notice that when short-haired cats tilt their heads and their eyes are almond, not round, we tend to see that as a sweet expression. Penny sure looks sweet here!

Penny is such a precious little girl, but that's a road with cars and no doubt dogs and possible unfriendly people. No need to let her outside - keep her safe inside!
