Michael says: One day about two years ago a stray cat brought two kittens onto my girlfriend's parents' back porch in Belgium. My girlfriend called them Edgar and Ellen. Three days later, the mom cat brought a third kitten! What other name to give him than Poe? The mom cat couldn't have picked a better porch because my girlfriend committed to caring for them as much as she possibly could without making them house pets (something her father was adamant about). All three came down with upper respiratory ailments, and while Edgar and Ellen recovered fairly quickly, Poe struggled since he was a little behind his bigger sisters in growth and development. He needed hand feeding and extra antibiotics treatments, but soon he started to get better and he turned out to be the most attention seeking of the trio. Eventually my girlfriend moved 100 km away to live with me and the kittens were left to the feral life. Poe occasionally still stops by in the backyard but for the most part he has moved on to a different area of the neighbourhood due to territorial conflicts… We did call the Felix Project and they did trap, neuter, and release on all the strays in the neighborhood.

Poor baby! So glad the cats in the neighborhood got neutered, hope the mother cat was there, too. And this was in Belgium? Didn't know that they had a feral cat problem, too. But I already knew that there are caring people in Belgium!

These three are lovely babies. Poe was of course the obvious name and it's a good one too :-)

Love your literary names for the kittens; Poe is a darling; I hope he has a safe life. Netherlands, a beautiful country !

Well, you did give them a good start in life and then let them fend for themselves. I feel of two minds about this.

What a sad ending to this cattie's life. Left to the feral life is awful. I would have found some other person in the neighborhood to take care of him. Good you did TNR for the strays though!

I feel sad that he looks so sad. Why didn't your girlfriend take them with her when she moved in with you. I hope they are all well. Truly sad.

Poor cat...in all these pictures he looks sad like he already knows he will have a hard life on the streets. I wish they could have found homes while still very little. Young feral kittens will adapt to people and living indoors. Such a sad story.....

So handsome. He might get adopted. Food is the bridge and he already knows sometimes humans help. At least with trap, neuter and release, it stops here.
