About ten years ago a neighbor moved away and just abandoned their cat. It was about half wild, but after feeding it for a week or so we were able to approach it close enough to realize it was pregnant. We kept one of the kittens and took the rest to my parents where they've thrived. The adult generations are very hard to approach, but we have been able to work with the new kittens with each litter. There are many farms in the area now with great "mousers" thanks to that original abandoned cat.
I noticed this litter playing on the deck and couldn't resist shooting some photos. And yes... these kittens are still all together in the north part of the county keeping a chicken farm mouse-free.
