Wayne says: Rascal was found abandoned on the streets of Ottawa, Canada, by my daughter Marie Ann. He was introduced into the family and immediately made himself right at home. We have a Yorkshire terrier named Princess who is a great little puppy dog, and they took to each other very quickly and are now great friends. Sometimes he acts like he is half dog himself. My daughter rubbed his tummy from the time she got him, and now when he wants affection, which is often, he rolls over onto his back with all four feet up in the air and looks at you with beseeching eyes looking for his tummy rub. He has developed into a beautiful, happy, smart people cat.

There's an area around or close by the Parliament buildings in Ottawa where many cats live, and apparently there is someone who is/was caring for them on a regular basis. That part of town is known for its feral cat colonies. And there's plenty of kitties inside the prime minister's office too...LOL.
Glad to see that Rascal has adapted and fit into your family so well, he's a realy cutie!

What a cutie! And thanks for sharing a wonderful story-- I've been a rescue cat mom myself, so those tales are always the ones that mean the most to me. And I just want to hug that beautiful baby!

This little fluffball wouldn't have been on the streets for long! He's soooo cute! It wouldn't have taken me two seconds to "kitnap" him. I wouldn't have even broken stride, just leaned over, scooped him up and kept walking.

Honestly, some of the best things in the world are just there for the taking! One man's trash, etc.

That is a baby Maine Coon if I've ever seen one!!1 Which I have. I have a beautiful Silver Tabby Maine Coon, and he looked just like that when he was a kitty. Plus that breed loves to have their tummies rubbed. Plus yes they I believe the only breed with the tuffs on the ears. They are called "Gentle Giants". You know hes going to be about 20+ lbs. Don't you? At least! They also like water, my guy is an "Ice Hockey" player on my tile. Love my Kitties!!!
weasley -
Also, if he is a full breed Maine Coon, That guy would have set you back about $500.00 dollars or more from a breeder. They are one of the most popular at cat shows. You lucked out! My sister has a similar story, and hers was a full bread "Turkish Van", which I had never heard of, but again, a very rare and expensive breed, and she just showed up on her porch? Lucky! Keep you eye on him, hes a diamond in the ruff! Enjoy, I adore mine.

That is so sweet that you saved the kitty. My husband and I found 2 kittens that weren't big enough to take the the humane society, so we kept them with the idea that we would take them when they got big enough. They are now part of the family and we couldn't love them more! Thanks for saving her!

Wayne & Marie Ann -
Thanks everyone for the wonderful and sometimes very informative comments!!! He certainly looks adorable and the best part is,his personality is even better. We are very happy and thankful to have him. Something I found very interesting was that I may have a Maine Coon on my hands. I had no idea....The descriptions from Paulajeanne and Weasley sound very much like him... Thank u so much! We will have to investigate. Love W. & M.

Just for your information, these pictures were Photoshopped...but very minimally. Just basic curves and a bit of sharpening! The camera was a Nikon D 200 with an 85 mm, f 1.4 lens which I had pretty much wide open the whole time. I also used an on board accessory flash, the SB 800 set to balanced fill..That's it... no trickery....swear!!!

The camera used was a Nikon D 200 with an 85 mm, f 1.4 lens. I think I had the lens wide open pretty much the whole time. I also used an on board accessory flash, the SB 800 set to balanced fill with the flash exposure set about 2/3 of a stop less than 0, or normal. These pics are the real deal! Thanks again and Rascal says Meeeooww!!!
Wayne For MC -
For MC. Yes there is, what you might call, a cat sanctuary behind and to the west of the main Parliament Buildings or Centre Block. To my knowledge the original man that started it on his own, is still running it. I don't know for sure because the last time I visited, was with my daughter about 5 years ago. As I heard the story, he was a grounds keeper at Parliament Hill and being an animal lover, started feeding some stray cats around the Hill. The "Hill" is right next to the Ottawa River and there is fair sized wooded area behind the buildings. He started this on his own and out of his own pocket.
What happened was though... cat word got around and before too long there were more and more kitty cats than this man,I can't remember his name off hand, but you could probably Google it, could afford to help! So.. being one to stand up to a challenge and try to solve a conundrum, this man thought...Hhhmmm, I'll bet other people care about these animals to so why don't I try taking up a collection...strickly donations of coarse.. and as far as I know the story, that is how he kept the Parliament Hill Cat Sanctuary going because quite quickly people word got out to and soon more and more people were stopping by to see what was, by this time quite a large kitty cat drop-in centre.
Well to cut a long story short... So much attention was finally brought to the situation of the stray cats of Parliament Hill, that the government basically had to get involved and are now officially the proud sponsors of the Parliament Hill Cat Sanctuary.
As far as I know... this is at least a close approximation of the real story. Yayyy!!! W

Such an adorable sweetie. I fell in love with my little kitten since the day I found her stuffed into my next door neighbours old mail box. She seemed so scared but she soon fell in to place with us.
