rofanator says: Milton came from a rescue centre. He was a very nervous kitten and didn't like to cuddle. Now he's a very grumpy three year old and only just started to purr in the last few weeks. He has a urine problem and has to eat CD food for the rest of his life, but he's not too fussed about that.

Our cat (who adopted us) never meowed and isn't a lap cat...jumps down asap. However, the older she gets the more she has to be with us. Follows us everywhere we go now. Sleeps next to where I work all day long. Follows and meows at my husband as he goes about his work. Meows all the time letting us know what she things about everything. Maybe Milton will mellow as he gets older.

What a sweetie !
Just keep cuddling - I have a stray ladycat who took 6 or 7 years before starting to purr- but now she does purr me to sleep each night and awakens me each morning with the loudest purr ever(like a car standing outside with the motor running) and she can keepit up for up to two hours, at least.She has been eating CD, too, for urinary problems- and loves it.

Sometimes it takes a while for cats (and people) to relax and mellow a bit. And for the record, I get kinda grumpy when I have a urinary tract infection!

My daughter's cat is 14 and hates everyone except my daughter. I nursed him through kidney failure and the resultant problems he experienced during the pet food contamination, sat with him, cried over him, hauled him to the vet, missed work for him, bought him really expensive cat food, and the first time I saw him a couple months later, after he went to live with my daughter, he ran into the bedroom and hid under the bed. He didn't come out for hours and then only to eat. He hardly let me pet him before running under the bed again. That's gratitude for you! But, I love my grandcat anyway.

My daughter has a cat who doesn't purr for anyone except me. With other people he makes a sucking sound as if he is sucking on a pacifier when he is happy. I have never heard another cat do that.
