Bailey's Girl Pluiz

Peter says: We wanted to keep one of Bailey's kittens and we found the three red males to be the prettiest. But since Bailey was our red "replacement" for our departed and much loved red cat Simba, the choice was NOT to go for a red male. So then we went for one of the females, and my wife found Pluiz to be the prettiest. Pluiz (pronounced like "Louise" with a P in front) or, in full, Pluiz de La Ruiz, is more of a "mama" type who used to let her sisters try to get milk from her even though she hadn't any. Mama Bailey lost interest in breastfeeding and our Pluiz took over that job :) Isn't that just sweeeeeeeeeet! It was a funny sight I can tell you. We love our girl Pluiz.

Well, how nice. This couple chose this kitten based on how "pretty" she was. It's a wonder that if we chose adopted children based off their looks alone, this would start a sh*tstorm.

And how nice that they already have a replacement for their so beloved departed cat. Good thing animals can be treated as commodities like a TV set, etc., and are replaceable. Certainly makes our lives easier.

Here I was viewing my companions as unique, one of a kind individuals - who were not loved based on how pretty they were, or how much they resembled a previous animal I have cared for.

I don't think they meant anything by it... it seems like a language/cultural difference to me. That may be why "replacement" was in quotes - it sounds like they really loved their previous cat Simba. Isn't it a good thing to have a kitty go to a loving home? :(

I'm sure they love their cats. I love my iPod. They shouldn't be the same.

It is great when animals go the loving homes. It's not great when people fail to recognize all animals as individuals, and as "things" that we can "own."

Most people use terms like..."I've owned cats before..." etc., and herein lies my concern.

Until we recognize animals as living, breathing individuals capable of love, sadness and personality variations, animals will be treated as objects that we can own.

wow. u need to lighten up. The point here is that a kitten has now a loving home and family. It could be out on the streets somewhere, starving instead. A lot of people adopt cats/dogs after their prev pets die to fill the void. what's wrong with that? It's ok to let go. So long as they (the pets) are loved and cared for, i really don't think it's a problem Why don't u pick on those who shift homes and dump their pets in shelters? or those who don't spay their cats/dogs and dump their offsprings in a cardboard box in rivers? these nice people really didn't deserve a wet blanket response.
