John Nyberg says: Chocolate Love (the darkest one with the most clear white stripes) and Winter Joy (the blue-ish one) are the newest additions to my friend's Maine Coon cattery in Denmark. They live in a big family counting three adult males and five adult females.

Can't pick a fave. Many years since I've had a Maine Coon(Jackie Mouse), but he was unforgettable!! And these are true prizes! Gorgeous. Maybe it is time for another, but they have serious heart flaws built in, and I can no longer afford the medical bllls or attachment losses. Cardiomyopathy, genetic.

Beautiful kitties! I've had/have 5 Maine Coon/Maine Coon mixes and they are sweet and sassy kitties. Laid back and demanding at the same time. Forgive me, but I wince a little bit every time I see breeder kits when there are so many kits put to death in shelters every day. I firmly believe in "Adopt, don't shop".

Natthecat, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a problem in the breed, particularly if there is inbreeding. Unfortunately, not all breeders are ethical. I have had 3 Maine Coon rescues (from unethical breeders) and one halfie, although I do suspect Freyja has some Maine Coon in her based on her body build and coat. Anyways, the halfie did have the heart problem. I also have a "good-God-only-knows-what" cat (Sarajevo daily kit # 1395) that has been living with it since birth. She is now 7 and was given 2 months to live 3 years ago. It will break my heart to pieces when she goes (Mollie, the other kitty lived only two years and I still cry over her). Hemi and Cuda (kits # 1409 & 1408) are now 14.5 years old. Cuda has thyroid and allergy issues but neither they nor my other (Chianti - poisoned by the melamine the Chinese sold as protein to pet food manufacturers) have had any heart issues. I know losing your baby is heartbreaking but there are so many in shelters that will be put to death unless someone rescues them. Think about it. It would be a wonderful tribute to your Jackie Mouse's memory to save another furry life.

#Calicocatfan--Every word pierces my heart. But I am elderly (76) and basically broke. The mean vet at the ASPCA said I was too old and poor to have a pet--could I make this up? She also misdiagnosed my Benny as too fat for his legs. Actually, Benny had a severe heart problem too, which led to his saddle thrombus. I read up on his condition too late, but he would have died no matter what. After Jackie, I had Nat the Cat, who died from megacolon, Spider (poisoned by Menu foods) and Pixel whose cystitis was terminal. All were innocents and loved totally. I think I need to be realistic about my situation these days. But if I win the Lottery. . . As for volunteering or fostering, I am too disabled. Thank you for your post. You are a wonderful person.

Natthecat, I am so sorry. I will think of you and your babies every time I am with mine. I will consider Freyja as "yours" and promise to take good care of her. She is such a goofball. Too old to have a pet! What a disgusting person to say that.
