Brenda says: Panther is a six week old playful, energetic little guy, son of Daisy and brother of Tigre. He looks suspiciously like the tom cat we saw roaming in the backyard the other day. At six weeks he is eating soft food and has been successfully using the litter box for the past two weeks. He enjoys tumbling around the sun room with his sister, mother, and aunt Britany (our Himalayan cat). When he's old enough, he'll be able to roam the farm with his mother and learn to hunt mice. We plan on keeping him around. He is quite the charmer.

Wow, #Brenda, you certainly have the most lovable farm cats! Anywhere else they would be jewels of the cattery. Panther is gorgeous!

Panther looks like he will be quite the determined mouse hunter. He is the cutest little fur-ball; I would love to give him a tummy rub.

What a little doll! And look at those big paws. He's going to be a fine, big cat!

Panther looks like he started out with a fever coat (meaning his mother had a fever or was stressed). See wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_coat_genetics#Fe… for more detail.

The fever coat should be replaced after a few weeks by fur colored the way his DNA dictates -- and in the last few pictures it does look like the fever coat fur was replaced by his regular black color.

Note also: it said that he looks suspiciously like the local tom... but male cats don't get their color DNA from their fathers at all; the color genes are only in the X chromosomes (which is why the vast majority of tortoiseshell and calico cats are female; they have two X chromosomes, one with red and one with black. The rare male cats with both red and black colors have an extra chromosome, so they have XXY.)

As I've said before, I can learn something from GMK and the comments, as well as the pix. Just by following my cat fancy.

"Panther!" Well, I was expecting to see a smooth muscled killer.
This Panther looks far more a lover than a fighter. He is gorgeous and is so darn cute, he just belies the name.
Panther I hope you have a ball hunting around the Barn with your buddies; but in the picture of you on your back half asleep on the fuzzy pink blankie with the little red hearts; well with any luck you just might wind up in the family home.
