Lana says: When I first found this kitten, I think he was the ugliest kitten I had ever seen in my life. He was so skinny and completely covered in filth (motor oil maybe?) that it was almost horrifying. I couldn't leave him like that though, so I took him in. Luckily, he wasn't feral, and was instead one of the most cuddly kittens I have ever known. But I was moving and couldn't take him with me, so I tried to find someone to adopt him, but without luck. There weren't any shelters near where I was in the Israeli countryside, and even in Tel Aviv, there are so many stray cats that the shelters will not take them in, they will only accept owner surrenders. Anyway, after volunteering at one of the shelters there, I would rather release a cat that had a chance of fending for itself that take it to the shelter. So all I was able to do was take him to the vet, get him neutered, and then release him. The neighborhood is pretty safe for cats, and a lot of the neighbors feed strays, so I think he will do all right. I didn't get a picture of it, but he became completely white (and orange) when I last saw him, so the grey color was not natural.

The adult cat in a few of the pictures is another stray who often hung around. He looks so much like the kitten, but can't be the father because he had been neutered long before the kitten was born.

There has never been an ugly kitten on the Daily Kitten before, but doesn't this guy look so much better in the end?!

Wow! Impressive! Too many people ignore ugly animals! So glad you were able to see the gorgeous diamond underneath!

The measure of a person can be determined by how they treat the most vulnerable amongst us. I think your measure is great!!!

It's a shame you couldn't keep the poor thing. He looks like such a little love! I'm glad you were able to care for him in his time of need. The world needs more caring people like you :)

That's heartbreaking - wish I was there as I'd love him, he's got a lovely wise face. Those sad eyes get me every time! His face is like one of my cats, Shelby, and he's totally adorable.

I like that he looks rested and relaxed in this picture. He must have felt very happy to be with you and have you clean him up and take care of him.

I bet he misses your loving arms. He is to cute. The pics made me cry b/c it made me think of my vanilla. I just had to put her down ( 2 days short of 2 weeks ago now ). She was skinny like that due to her having breast cancer, so I had to release her from this place. Well, when I got her 13 yrs ago. I got her at a store, and I was actually gonna get another kitten whom was orange and white. She was so cute with eyes asking me to save her so I did. She was the bestest friend anyone could ask for... I miss her alot. I wonder if he feels the same for you, and misses you that way... You did so much for him.

This is easily one of the most beautiful/moving pictures I have ever seen. You can only do so much. But, he is beautiful, and you did the right thing by him!!

So sad that you couldn't keep such a love bug nor find him a home. The photo touching noses is precious. He deserves a loving touch, comfortable bed and good food. I agree with Jake that your measure is great!

how could you part with him?? Oy!! What a nice thing you were able to do, but -- how could you part with him after all that? I don't think I would have had the strentth....sigh

Good for you for neutering him. It's necessary to prevent more sad stories about unloved strays and even though it seems expensive, if we all just skipped that one new purse or pair of shoes or spent one weekend at home instead of at the bar with friends, it's not hard to cover the cost.

Yes I agree he is beautiful and it was good that you could take care of him but frankly I don't like stories like this one It just breaks my heart how anyone could just turned him loose and leave him tossed outside to defend for himself. That is cruel I'm sorry this story is just to much for me Poor baby he didn't deserve it.

What a sweetie. It's great that you could help him out, even if you couldn't keep him. Maybe the other cat is his big brother and they can keep each other company. :)

*sigh* you were realy nice to do this. i would be just heartbroken if i had to let a cat go like that. humans are stupid in so many ways. why would someone mistreat a cat, there is no such thing as an ugly cat or kitten.

If you can;t get a decent home for a stray and they are well taken care off on the streets, what you did is the best you could do! :)

Thank you for caring for this kitty. I don't think he's ugly, he's a sweet looking cat. But boy that gray stuff seems so hard to get it off! Poor guy, but I'm glad he met you, and you did the best you could do for him.

Oh my gosh, what a SWEETIE! How could you possibly give him up??? I could NEVER live in a place that didn't allow cats.

Thank you for getting him healthy and clean and giving him some love when you could!
Jilli -
HE's so cute, even covered in whatever made him grey. He' lucky to have found you and if you're in a neighbourhood where people tend to care for the strays even if they can't keep them in their homes, then I thnk he'll have lots of familiesto call his.
chloe -
Book him on the next El Al and I will love him forever. You don't find many orange, Jewish kittens available. Our 18+ year old who just died was Elliott (Eli) and he was a real mensch. Thank heaven for people like you.

How sad that you had to turn him back to the street. But thank you for having him neutered before doing so. You're a good person for that. The world needs more of you. And, like the other writers, he's not ugly, just unique! Which makes him cute and special. :-)

Can we see some recent pictures? I seem to be over sympathizing with your kitty and I'd like to see happy pictures too. Poor little duffer.

In Texas if you feed stray animals they're considered yours but I feed a couple of sweet little guys that have been hanging around for months. I wish I could really rescue them but I already have three indoor cats in my very small house. I do my best to keep them safe. Thanks for trying to do the same.

After weeks of hearing about Michael Vick, how he abused dogs, it was heart warming to read this story. At least my getting him neutured, it will make it easier to find a home. As far as him being ugly, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Both this cat and you are beautiful. I hope he gets a home. Thank you for sharing this story with us, who just love cats, all cats, not just the pretty kitties.
Matilda -
i cant believe this! everyone is saying how "kind she was" for taking this cat in. if she was kind, she would have done EVERYTHING she could to get him a home. given him to a friend or researched online and found a shelter in another town. releasing a cat on the street a figuring it will be fine is NOT ok! there are too many cats on the streets already. this is unacceptable and unbelievable
Matilda -
thank you so much! everyone is saying that the world needs more ppl like this woman.. oh come ON!
i think its great she had him neutered and took some cautions.. but i still think she could have done better!
