Kat says: My first kitty lived to be 18 years old. After she died, I said no more kitties! I love them but didn't want the responsibility. My friend is a foster mom for kittens and they were always so cute and adorable, but I knew I didn't want another kitty and I remained strong in the face of endless available kittens. THEN my neighbor brought home a kitten "for me." I said NO. Then a few days later, I was over at her house and little Torritt kitty walked out to say hello. I told her, "Well, maybe I'll just borrow him for the afternoon..." By the end of the day he had a name, a litter box, and food, and there was no turning back.

When coming up with a name, I wanted something unique and art related because I'm an artist. There is a color of grey oil paint made from recycled pigments called Torritt Grey. It seemed like the perfect name. Torritt loves to hunt. His first catch was a huge blue jay, which luckily got away. Since then there have been three or four little mice, various lizards (he LOVES lizard tails and will play with them for a good week in the house), moths, flies, etc. He spends days down the street in the scrub on a hillside. Sometimes I'll go to "pick him up." He's beyond a fence so I can't actually get to him, but if I call, he'll often come and is always super sweet when he does. Then we'll walk the block back home together. So I have a new cat and no regrets. He has been wonderful company for me and a wonderful muse for my artwork.

I just love this face! I know what you mean about not wanting another cat after loosing one you have had forever. I felt the same way, but they just keep sneaking into my heart and I can never say "No!"

I can see how hard it would have been to say no to this cutie! Torritt is just gorgeous. I have some photos of my cats looking up at me like this and they always melt my heart. I love all the photos and just wish I could meet this kitty in person as he's just adorable!

Dear Kat--I loved your story. It made me cry, because I went through much the same thing. The heart breaks but it repairs itself. Takes time and a new love like Torritt! He found you. You didn't have to search.

Enjoyed the videos very much, but could not help feel a little "antsy" seeing little Torrit running around on such a busy street. He is so little and could easily get run over or eat something he should not.

Have to side with lisaboese and say if you want him to be with you for a long time, you need to keep him inside. He'll get used to it, esp if you make your place fun for him. And he won't die.

Not very smart to let him run around outside, on his own. Now that you decided to get and keep this cat, you have the responsibility of taking care of him. That certainly means that you do NOT let him roam free!
