This is my Spooky (6/1994 - 4/2010). My Dad found him abandoned on a sidewalk in front of a crackhouse in the wrong part of town. Dad thought it was a bundle of leaves, but then Spooky moved and Dad rescued him--he was just 7 weeks old.
As it turned out, Spooky was probably a customer at the crackhouse--he was absolutely insane! I loved him to pieces, but he was a difficult kitty at times. I probably should have named him Gollum, but I was a big fan of The X-Files so I named him Spooky after Agent Mulder. He had giant bat ears as a baby and liked to climb the door lintels like a lumberjack and then wait to drop on me when I walked by, but he was so pretty that I couldn't stay mad for long.
He loved bread products (hamburger buns were never safe!) and coffee too. He would break into the cabinet to get the whole beans and crunch them up sometimes. He also liked to climb through the AC ducts and the ceiling tiles (usually falling through them down onto the bed in the middle of the night and wake me up screaming).
Fortunately, when I met my husband, Spooky loved him instantly (Spooky always loved men, but that's another story) and my husband was a great Dad to him.
Spooky recently passed away at a ripe old age and we still miss him a lot, even though we've rescued another wonderful kitty since then. We keep a portrait of him on the mantel.
