Debby says: Two years ago I moved to Moloka'i, Hawaii, for three months to do some mending and healing. This little trio of feral cats were my first friends and kept me company as I settled in in the middle of the Pacific. It was love at first sight, as the little white girl and her two siblings greeted me my first morning there by climbing the screened door of my condo. I became their main source of food and water, and by the time I left three months later, she would let me pick her up for about two seconds (!), and whenever I opened the door, she would scoot past me inside. They were always waiting for me first thing in the morning, and whenever I returned after being away for a time. I ended up calling her Moloka'i and just referred to her brothers as "your brothers" when I was talking to her. I thought long and hard about bringing Moloka'i home when my stay in Hawaii was over, but in the end knew I couldn't and I arranged for others to feed these three sweet little beings after I left. I missed her and her brothers so much!

Thinking and writing about her brings back the happy, happy memories of my time there. Though it's also really sad, as there is a huge feral cat population on the west end of the island. But also there are very caring folks living there that feed and water and try to spay and neuter and take them to the clinic when they are ill…

"Lemme in, where's my food?" Such a bunch of cuties - I'm pleased to hear people care for them and neuter them when possible. The dark tabby looks a lot like my Smooch. Very pretty, all of them!

Poor kitties, I wish that somebody could give them a home...thanks for being so kind to them and arranging for their continuing care, a lot of people wouldn't have done that!!!

So much was left unsaid in this story. But I hope you are feeling better yourself, Debby. The kitties gave you an island welcome and all three were beautifully photographed. I loved the pix of them at the screen door, especially.

How good of you to feed the ferals. I do, too. It isn't their fault that they are out there. I hope the folks that feed them now keep in touch so you know how they are doing.

I'm sure beautiful Moloka'i and her siblings were part of your healing. I had a similar experience with some ferals several years ago when I was at a temporary duty station in the military and indeed you never forget them. They ensured I was never lonely.

Beautiful catties all three of them. It is such a hard life for these little babies on the outside. I am glad that you found someone to feed them after you left. I wonder what ever became of them? I am sure no one spay/neutered them. Truly a shame.

Moloka'i is a beautiful kitty. I wonder if anyone or any organization is trying to catch and neuter the population there!!

Her tail looks like it belongs on a raccoon - her coloring is so unique with her being just about solid white and the tail being so patterned. Cute!
