Mark says: I live at an apartment complex in Alaska and a couple of years ago the manager and I realized that there was a feral female cat that had a litter of kittens behind the complex. We decided to try and capture her and the two surviving kittens before winter and have them fixed. We never have been able to catch her but we did catch the two kittens, one of which I still have and named Cali. The momma kitty has two litters a year, although the winter batch rarely survives. Last winter she had this litter featured on the Daily Kitten today, an orange male and three grey females. They hung out on that stump together and would come out on the sidewalk to eat if big brother thought it safe. The orange male is with the manager now along with this winter's lone survivor. We can't find homes for them all every year and people are being very unresponsible about their pets and it's becoming too much for us to deal with. We now have three generations of the same mother's kittens and she has just given birth again. They are amazing cats but will not be around anyone but the two of us. We would love to catch the momma and have her spayed but she is extremely smart.

You certainly tried! These kitties were so sweet and momma's smarts were actually not so smart. Great story and photos! I hope you haven't given up.

What wonderful photos; glad that you've been trying to rescue these feral kitties. So sad when animals have to suffer in the cold.

Adorable catties all of them. Three females translates into a lot of kittens, if they are not spayed. Thank you for trying, I also had a feral family, and we could not catch the mother, and three of her 5 catties died. I have two of the babies, although, now they are over a year old, and I tnr'd them both. They are still very afraid, but I am working on getting one of them in the house. Thanks for all you do for these ferals.

Mark, these are especially beautiful little cats, and your photos are so good it's hard to pick just one. Thank you for helping these kittens and for being so dedicated to trying to get the mom fixed.

All beautiful! Have you checked with the closest Humane Society, animal rescue or even a Vet about a trap to get the Mom cat...? You and your apt manger are great for humanity!

please check out our website for tips on humanely trapping (TNR) these cats and kittens. It can be done! You can get the mother cat! Please try to stop the end of this cycle. It will take a lot of work, but it's worth it. WWW.carolsferals.org. Call us if you need more information!

You take beautiful pictures and bless you for all that you try to do for them. I wish more people were like you.

I understand completely - we have way too many cats now (16), but the only alternative in this cat-hating area is having them killed, and there is no way we will betray them like that (we both know how much it hurts to be thoroughly betrayed by the people we trusted if not loved).

The only good thing is that rescues can become some of the most loving kitties you will ever encounter. The difficulties we live with are more than offset by the purrs and nose-rubs and snuggles and all the other signs of affection they give us (making it easier to live in this ...area...).

People don't want to spend money on getting them fixed, but they're more than willing to throw the little ones out once they get pregnant - showing no compassion or concern for anything else. I must say that it's people like you who care, who help others (such as us) to not get completely discouraged because of all of those who don't think of anything else but themselves and their desires.

Such beauty should be appreciated, not thrown out like so much trash. Thank you for doing your best for these adorable kitties.

Oh, my goodness, I understand. We moved into a house that has feral cats living in the backyard. We fix and spay with the assistance of the Feral Cat Coalition but we just can't get Mama Cat. As your Mama cat she is smart and won't go in the traps. So we have 12 cats now. We love them and feed them, even providing dog houses and cat stands. We have to get it under control though. We are lucky we live in San Diego, CA so the weather is good and the neighborhood is safe for them. Anyway, your kitties are adorable and bless you for all you are doing for them.

God bless you both for trying so hard to contain this problem that is no fault of your own. It is so sad that this happens and not fair to these poor little ones who suffer through it.

It is so sad you have been unable to catch the mother but thank you for doing what you can. The kittens are gorgeous. Wonder who the father of these kittens is - obviously a stray or a cat whose owner hasn't had neutered. If only people would be responsible for their animals there would be no unwanted cats and kittens!

These pictures are all amazing. I chose to comment with this one because I'm in love with this big lug. What a doll! You keep working on Mama. One of these days you'll make her life better, too.
