Jay says: Daisy was a stray cat who brought four of her babies to the back door of the house. We started to feed them every day. We named the little tabby Tiger, Jr., because he was very well marked with tiger-like stripes. We fed Tiger, Jr., his mom, and his three siblings for a few months before they slowly went their own ways.

Yes, I feel a bit sad that they "went their own ways." Does that mean they became ferals? Tiger Jr. was very adoptable, as was the rest of this family.

What a sweet little family... I'm with the rest of the comments, someone never should have let them 'go their own way', that's how mom-cat ended up at your house with kittens. Hopefully they will all find adoptive families that will have them spayed/neutered.

What a sad story...my heart goes out to these babies and mom that nobody wanted.

I am so sad they were not spayed and neutered. This is why we have Feral Colonies !!!!! If you cannot afford it, most places have Free services. I know this happened years ago, but SHAME ON YOU for not caring enough to make their lives better. The kittens could have been adopted and socialized.

I am going to refrain from comment today as it would be directed toward the contributor and not very nice at all

I'd remind people that there may be things going on that you don't know about.

(1) ignorance - not everyone realizes or understands the problem with cat "colonies". There are a lot of people who think behavior like that is perfectly OK. Being enraged at the person would be counterproductive in such a situation.

(2) In some areas, they don't have free spay or neuter services, or access to them is difficult and deliberately embarrassing. In this hellhole, there is a lifetime limit to the number of cats you can take in for a reduced fee (I think 4 cats) and you have to open up your finances to examination (and criticism and judgment). There is also often a very lengthy waiting list for assistance - literally months when we tried to get help (the kitten we rescued became pregnant and gave birth the week before her appointment).

(3) There is a huge problem in many areas with dropoffs. We have four kittens we're raising now (rescues found in our back yard), offspring of a cat that was dropped off in our yard and which nearly died of starvation under my wife's car... I literally saved its life by feeding it. The situation will put us between a rock and a hard place because we cannot afford to take care of them all.

(4) the person may live in an area much like this, where the chances are greatest that if taken to a shelter, they would end up DEAD. We have too many cats now because of the probability of not living to be adopted combined with the tendency of certain types of comfortable people to discard cats when they are no longer kittens (or pregnant).

The thing is, people often forget that there may be another side to the story that's not readily apparent.

Thank you for feeding them, they all look fairly healthy. I just wish they could have been spayed/neutered and found forever homes.

I might remind A Walkaway that doing nothing is as bad as doing harm. If one sees a problem they should try to fix it or they are just as guilty as the one creating the problem. Duh! The kittens just went away after a few months? More like they were hurt or killed. I go out of my way to make a difference and don't feel any sympathy for people that don't try and make things better, especially for creatures that can't make it better themselves.

It's so nice that you fed them but I'm worried about these little guys' futures.

I would have had to adopt them, have them all spayed and then love them forever! I am glad you fed them, but I wish you had done something to ensure they don't go on to breed and add to the unwanted cat population.

I have been trying to understand the attractive fur coat on Tiger Jr. It finally came to me--it is called ticking. What a keeper he was! Hope he found someone to live with who recognized his beauty and value.
