Pansy and Buddy [3]

Karen says: I don't belong to a rescue group, I just foster kitties that seem to come my way. If they are taking kittens to the animal shelter or someone dumps them off at their home, I take them and put out my "Kittens" sign. Not a perfect system but our shelter only adopts out 20% (the rest are put down) so it seems like a better way to me. I hand out cards for our low-cost spay/neuter vet and strongly suggest they get them done. I try to do what I can.

Buddy and Pansy were among my first fosters and I couldn't give them up so they are now members of my family. They were found abandoned by their mom-cat near a local store when they were two or three weeks old and weighed ten oz. They were feral and hissed at me for a few days until they decided that the formula was okay. They are both sweethearts and I don't think they know they are cats -- just humans with fur.

Thank you for saving all you can, you give them a better start in life than euthanizing. I can see those sensitive faces could be really hard to let go. I have 2 Foster failures of my own from my fostering day's.

God bless you for what you do Karen! Alive is always better than dead so it is a great thing to foster! I have 3 in the house right now that are being fostered and 4 "failed fosters" of my own. People always tell me they can't foster because they would keep them all. I tell them that would never work and I always remind myself that if I don't give them back to find good homes, I won't have room to foster more that need me. It is so much fun and so rewarding!

I know all about "failed fosters"...I have one! I also foster. I work with a local shelter. Fortunately, euthanasia is seldom an option since we work with other organizations such as Friends of Ferals. The only cats that get euthanized are those who are very ill or have other severe physical issues. I have two darling 3 wk old girls right now.
Fostering is work but it's so much fun!

What an adorable pair. I believe I would have had to keep them too. I too have a "foster failure" and am so glad I kept her. Bless you for saving these two babies. Many happy years with both of them:)
