Jaime says: Sienna was a special kitten in her litter for a very specific reason -- she was the only female. And not just because she was the only female, but she was an ORANGE female! As you may already know, female orange cats are quite rare (kind of how male calico/torties are rare), so the shelter and I considered her to be very unique! Although her brothers were all named in honor of St. Patrick's Day and Ireland, Sienna's name came from her gorgeous orange-red fur.

She may have been the only female, but you could definitely tell she was raised with brothers. She was such a tomboy! The girl had no fear whatsoever and she loved to get herself into mischief. And my goodness, was she a feisty little thing! Whenever I took her and her brothers in for a check-up, she would always cause some sort of chaos, no fail. I think one of her strongest qualities was her speed and ability to climb. She was probably the most intelligent out of the four and was the first to start walking steadily as well as run without too many issues -- by four-weeks of age. She was quick to start learning how to play and was the first to begin drinking the formula from a dish. A very wise little lady, indeed! Plus, on top of her crazy kitten antics, Sienna was always quick to hop into my lap before anyone else even got the chance. She LOVES to be held and be with people at all times.

Unfortunately, Sienna still remains at the shelter after being available for adoption for nearly two weeks. I cannot believe she has not been adopted for how gorgeous she is, and especially since her brothers were adopted within a couple days. So, if you live in southern California, Sienna is spayed, has her shots up to date, and our shelter's adoption fee ALSO includes flea and tick medications, a microchip, and her first vet trip paid for. My little princess is still looking for her forever home, and I hope her future family finds her soon! Sienna's shelter ID number is A634886.

What a love bug! I sure hope she finds a forever home soon. Did not know that female orange tabbies were rare since I have had several and have one now.

Female orange tabbies aren't really rare, just uncommon. It's an X-linked trait, so females need 2 copies of the gene whereas males need just 1. Orange boys can get that from a calico mom + any dad, whereas a female orange kitten would have to have orange dad and an orange or calico mom.
Calico coloration occurs when there are two X chromosomes (normal in females) that code for different colors, and one X chromosome is selectively inactivated in each colored patch. A male calico is rare because they have an extra sex chromosome due to an error at conception. They are infertile.

Anyway... she is adorable and I wish I lived in your area!

Dear Sienna--Like all the other commenters (word?) I live too far-- on the east coast--to transport you for hours and go through airline checkpoints with you. If the internet was like Star Trek, you would be in my living room NOW.

Jaime--Please follow up on Sienna's placement and tell us the good news. I'll be watching.

I loved reading this story until the end. Who could resist this little face! If I were in Cali. I would have her for sure! What a beautiful little girl. I hope someone decides they need an orange fluff ball soon. Love you Sienna :)
Manicat -
Too cute. I want her but am in the wrong part of the country. Maybe my cousins in SoCal can keep her for me? Seriously, she is adorable and enough to make me want to move.

All 4 are adorable! I am sitting right now with an orange female (Hunny) in my lap that we rescued from a barn where the JRT's ruled. She is special to me and I am to her. I brought her and a litter home to be safe, placed the kittens and couldn't let her go back there. Thanks for being a foster - it's a special calling. Let's hope Sienna finds her forever home soon.

She's such a little angel!! This makes me want to hop in a car and drive the 1.5 days to SoCal to adopt her!! I sooo hope someone takes here home soon =)
The Girl Cat -
I am an orange girl too and this is what I looked like when my parents found me feral and sick. Sienna will be so pretty (not as pretty as I am) when she grows older and she will find a home and live like a princess - just as I do. My mother wants to drive down and get her - but we just aren't ready for a baby yet. Maybe you could take her home and have a little princess in your house. My people are very thrilled with me On FB - you can find me at Flat Rat and the Girl CaT

I have those same tummy spots too.

I love orange cats. If I didn't already have 6 indoor cats and countless feral outside cats, I would get her in a heartbeat. She's beautiful. Please keep the sight up to date on her.
