I found Orville a month ago at my flying club airfield. He has apparently been hanging out there for some time and was extremely friendly and practically begged to be taken care of. I simply could not stand the thought of leaving him there for the winter (Last winter was -10F/-25C with several feet of snow). He was very thin, 5.5 pounds, and full of ticks. I took him to a vet, had him ID-tagged, spayed, dewormed, deticked, de-earmited and vaccinated.
It has been difficult to determine his true age, he has shed his baby teeth so he is older than 6-7 months which makes him very tiny for his age.
My guess is that he has simply been starving trying to "live off the land". His left ear is pretty much deformed, either as a result of fighting, there are farm cats, dogs, foxes and badgers in the area or from frostbite or as a result of scratching earmites.
What didnt kill him apparently made him a lot stronger, he has no problem whatsoever in holding his ground from our two other cats who are 3 times as big (literally!).
He is named Orville after Orville Wright since he was found at my airfield and was completely comfortable with roaring airplane engines...
