Kavi says: Palani lives at
Navadarshanam, where he gets lots of love and pampering and unlimited hunting opportunities (at odds with the vegetarian and nonviolent aims of Navadarshanam's human residents). Nami the dog is known to chase Palani occasionally, but every time someone says she's a danger to the kitten, I show them that shot of Palani nose-to-nose with Nami. Naah, Palani's not scared of Nami, and doesn't have to be! Palani is more grown up now, these photos were taken last year. Most of the cats at ND are spayed now, but the experience with spaying hasn't been good. Two of the cats had botched up operations, as a result of which one of them was very sick for a long while. She did eventually recover thanks to very determined nursing and attention from a few people. And another vet did correct the operation. The other got pregnant even after the 'spaying' surgery! Finding reliable places for small animal surgery and care in India is very very hard, and most places are either very expensive, or unreliable (or both). Spaying dogs has greater success. But finding vets who are willing and able to handle feral cats is very rare. The Cattitude Trust in Chennai is a fine exception to this norm, but elsewhere in India I am yet to come across similar organisations dedicated to cats' welfare...
