Kavi says: Palani lives at Navadarshanam, where he gets lots of love and pampering and unlimited hunting opportunities (at odds with the vegetarian and nonviolent aims of Navadarshanam's human residents). Nami the dog is known to chase Palani occasionally, but every time someone says she's a danger to the kitten, I show them that shot of Palani nose-to-nose with Nami. Naah, Palani's not scared of Nami, and doesn't have to be! Palani is more grown up now, these photos were taken last year. Most of the cats at ND are spayed now, but the experience with spaying hasn't been good. Two of the cats had botched up operations, as a result of which one of them was very sick for a long while. She did eventually recover thanks to very determined nursing and attention from a few people. And another vet did correct the operation. The other got pregnant even after the 'spaying' surgery! Finding reliable places for small animal surgery and care in India is very very hard, and most places are either very expensive, or unreliable (or both). Spaying dogs has greater success. But finding vets who are willing and able to handle feral cats is very rare. The Cattitude Trust in Chennai is a fine exception to this norm, but elsewhere in India I am yet to come across similar organisations dedicated to cats' welfare...

Oh dear, Kavi, I remember this picture of your mother, I think. Such a love-in. Does IFAW ( the International Fund for Animal Welfare) come to your country? I believe they train people in neutering, among other things. Anyway, that's why I support them. Palani is a fine girl. Absolutely lovely.

My mistake--it is Nami the dog who is a she. Palani is a he. Don't mind me, Palani.

Namaste! Palani is a beautiful little kitty... but judging by colors, looks to be female. A cat needs two X chromosomes in order to have both black and red colors. The only male cats who have both colors have a certain genetic abnormality that gives them XXY chromosomes.

Interesting coat color... a large patch of ticked, almost spotted fur, over white. And a triangular face, at least in this photo. Is this common in India? I'm glad Palani is tame enough to be picked up and loved. Smooches!

Thank you Kavi for all the love and support that you give to these catties in India. Palani is so handsome, with such unusual fur colors.

Beautiful cat with unusual markings. This could still be a male, hard to tell from the photos.

Kavi I wish God's blessings on you for your work in helping these feral cats! Palani looks like he is not too feral anymore and loves you very much. I hope India finally gets some good vets to spay your cats.

Namaste. Indeed the Cattitude Trust is one of the few in India who can properly help cats!
We are a USA nonprofit and they are one of the groups we help. USA Tax deductible donations may be given through us to help them– please see them listed here: http://www.helpanimalsindia.org/recipie…
Please scroll down to Cattitude Trust.
Cats as pets are relatively new to India so we try and educate for better cat care and train vets to do cat spay/neuter. We support several cat sanctuaries in India. Please see our short video about cats in India with more information here: http://www.helpanimalsindia.org/kitty_e…
Thank you for helping - Eileen in Seattle, WA USA on behalf of Cats in India

I support an animal charity in India. This baby is adorable and I suspect due her coloring she should be a girl - but if a male - it is a very unique baby. Namaste

What an unusual color pattern. I don't think I've ever seen this in cats, but lots of bunnies have it!

Kavi, what a wonderful picture! Both subjects are beautiful! I am sorry that good veterinary services are not readily available. Hopefully others will find the compassion to save the feral population. Namaste <3
