Kathy says: My colleague Laurel has a number of stray cats who eat on her porch and present their babies during kitten season. She's gotten all but one or two spayed/neutered. Last year, the baby cats who made their way onto her porch -- and into her heart -- were so beautiful! I dropped by after work to take some photos. Here's what Laurel says about the little ones:

"The two long-haired grey kittens, Gussie and George, were brother and sister with adorable personalities born to a young Maine Coon in our backyard who lacked the proper mothering skills. Despite efforts to keep them together, they went to separate but loving homes. Gregarious George (in the photos, he's the one with pink lipstick on his nose!) now shares a home with Angel, a shy white female cat that needed company. Affectionate Gussie gets all the attention she deserves as a lap cat for a 90-year-old post-stroke patient. Her caregivers provide the feeding and cat-box duties as an added bonus. The two gray tabbies are males and were the first in their family to poke through the knothole in the fence and come into my yard to be fed, so their names are Scout1 and Scout2. They were quickly adopted by separate families -- both with other cats -- and have adapted really well."

I can surely see why Gussie got her name. With her pretty fur she looks all gussied up. So glad they all went to loving homes:)

It is a lovely story until you stop and wonder what will happen to Gussie when that 90 year old stroke victim passes. Will she then be homeless or were there provisions made in the likely event this would happen.

I have a kitty who belonged to an elderly friend until she passed. I'm sure provisions have been made for Gussie.
