They are only deaf if both eyes are blue...cats with both different colored eyes are usually just nuts. I know from experience (veterinary tech).

I had a kitten just like this, her name was Suki. Unfortunately she had feline lukemia the first time we took her to a vet, so she had to be put down. Thanks for sharing these pictures. I hope you get to adopt some more of your own too :)

They are not deaf on the side of the blue eye. That's not true at all. This is a gorgeous breed called Turkish Angora. As the name suggests, they originated in Turkey. They are one of several species of Turkish cats that carry a recessive gene, which can cause them to have one green and one blue eye (which is kind of rare) but they usually have two blue eyes.

These are beautiful kitties! I had a beautiful 14 year old, one blue eye, one green eye, deaf cat. She was the most amazing cat in the world. The fact that she was deaf never stopped her from living life to the fullest. She passed away in August and I'm still heartbroken.

Gorgeous! But pure white cats with one blue eye and one green eye often have some degree of serious hearing loss due to the amount of inbreeding that occurred when developing these kitties. You might check their hearing and take precautions accordingly. My white cat, Buddy, was attacked and badly hurt because he didn't hear some creep coming up behind him. After about $3,000 in vet bills I found out about these cats' hearing problems. Good luck--they are beautiful kitties.

i had a white kitty with 1 green eye and 1 blue eye. she was totally deaf. its not only if both eyes are blue like someone posted earlier. funny enough, she loved being vacumued since the loud noise did not scare her away.

Beautiful kitties! Just a note, cats that have just different colored irises tend to be deaf in the ear that is on the same side of the blue eye. They can hear out of the other ear that has the non-blue eye! But it is not uncommon to have a kitty that is deaf in both ears that share this trait.

just to answer some of them:
- no, apparently they are not deaf at all, although it is common for odd eyed cats to be deaf..
- they are not Turkish Van or Turkish Angora.. they're mixed. Their litter had two other girls, black and white. They were adopted by someone else.

Albino-ism and deafness are not directly linked in cat genes. There are albino genes that do cause deafness but there are several breeds that have albino genes that don't cause hearing problems. Some people have mentioned Turkish Vans but also Siamese (their coat pattern is actually a type of albinoism and they all have blue eyes) who in turn have been used to create many other breeds and types. So white cats that have any of these breeds as ancestors can be white, with blue eyes and no hearing problems.

I had a tiny appleheaded siamese kitten that stayed about 5 pounds. She was super tiny and super cute! I had the same thing happen though, but my boyfriend took the cat when we broke up even though he gifted it to me and he "hates" cats. I miss her like crazy too, but at least I got some cute pictures to look at still.

God, they're so adorable. My cat looks exactly like them but she's older. My family and I found her when we were camping in Oregon. :D She's had kittens and one amazingly enough was black! None of the others had a green and a blue eye.

These two look like an example of 'mirror twins'. the same can happen in human twins. When the egg splits half goes one way and half goes the other. You can see the original egg if you split the kittens in half and swap the halve with each other. But who knows which was original...the blue or the green!

My beautiful odd-eyed white cat, Amalthea, lived 19 years; she had one yellow and one blue eye. She was a smart kitty but quite strange, was afraid of little children, other cats, and dogs, not afraid of adolescent or adult people. No hearing problems, no vision problems. There's a lot of misinformation around about deafness and blue eyes, as we see from this thread! As many have observed, blue eyes and deafness are not always linked.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw this photo. I have a nearly identical photo of when our late Pamuk (sadly, he passed on to kittie heaven last summer from a urinary infection) was a kitten. I thought Pamuk had somehow come back to a different master. Same features, same green/blue eyes, etc. Pamuk was a true Van Kedesi; sent to us from the Van Cat Center in Van Turkey when we lived in that country. Van Cats are a protected breed in Turkey. It was illegal for us to take him out of the country, but there was no way we were going to leave him there when we left. So, after some slick haggling with airport authorities in Istanbul, he was allowed on the plane with us. Pamuk loved to jump and "fly." He was really nuts. He was completely deaf, but his other cat senses more than made up for it. Thanks for sharing these photos.

I have an eighteen year old, Crystal, white with different eyes. She also has 6 toes on each front foot. Her brother, Leo, who lived to age 16, also had odd eyes and 5 toes. They had no hearing problems that could be detected. They are/were very special and adorable.

This is my favorite type of cat! The first time I saw a kitten with one blue eye and one green eye was in Chile! I read that usually the ear closest to the blue eye (on a white cat with two different colors) is deaf.

just to clarify...
the breakup us a friendly one and i can visit the babies whenever i feel like it...
my ex is still my friend..
i let her keep them because it was just fair (she's had hundreds of cats her whole life, and we got them because she *needed* cats on her life!)..

for some people talking about a "photoshop problem".. they are TWO cats, for god's sake!
