Mugs says: Cassidy is part of the growing pet population in our home, with a large dog, small stray dog, four stray kittens, two stray cats, and a pond full of fat fish. Cassidy is from a litter of four, from the original mama kitty Chloe. Chloe was a stray rescued from the streets. A month after they were born, we figured that three of them were male. Cassidy we had no clue; even the vets could not figure out if it was male or female. So we assumed she was a female and my wife named her Cassidy. And after a while -- boom -- she had extra parts popping out and "she" turned out to be "he"! But by then it was too late to rename her. So we let her stick with the name and we even still refer to him as a "her." Cassidy is accident prone. First, she fell off the first floor directly into our pond and survived. Second, she was run over and she survived. Third, she was bitten by a centipede and was poisoned, but with many visits to the vet and pumped with medicine she survived. Phew! Now her only goal in life is to wait for me to get home and give her a share of Whiskers. No matter where she is in the house, the minute my bike pulls up she is there in a flash with the other three chaps.

Strange and beautiful, strangely beautiful. But is Cassidy female or male--"parts popping out"?

What a beautiful face! But if you thought Cassidy was a "she", and later learned otherwise, then "she" is a HE, regardless of the name you gave him. He's a sweetie.

Same thing happened to me. Rescued a stray kitten, even the vet was sure it was a female. I named her Chloe. After nursing her back to health. I ask the vet to check again, to be absolutely positive. He checks..well long story short it was a boy. As it hadn't been that long, I changed the name to Carter. Sweetest little boy I could have asked for. Congrats for sticking with the name!

Cassidy is a beauty and I sure hope he/she lives to old age. We once had a cat who had only one kitten who we named Dolly; Dolly turned out to be a he but we also kept the name.

Cassidy is a purrfect name for such a handsome BOY. Well thank goodness this little guy has 9lives, I think he's used a few up. Take care of this accident prone puss...lots of love should do the trick.

Such a unique little kitten! Judging from the pictures, where it looks like there's a hint of orange around Cassidy's mouth, he may be a rarity in the cat world -- a male calico cat!

The gene for basic cat coat colours is found on the X chromosome (Girls are XX, boys are XY) and so most calicos and torties are girls, because they have one X for orange and one X for black. Boys, being XY usually, normally just come in one base colour (although tabby patterns and other spots and splotches are due to different genes).

Cassidy is unusual -- he's probably got a mutation that's given him an extra (X-tra?) X chromosome -- instead of XY for a boy, he's XXY. This is why he's got faint hints of orange around his mouth and one eye to go with his grey splotches, and this could also be why it was so hard to figure out just what he was -- he's what's technically known as 'intersex'.

A rare find, and a cute kitten. This molecular biologist approves!

Beautiful photos! Cassidy is a boy's name, too. Don't want to give him any identity issues. He has had enough to deal with in his life!

Reminds me of our Sonny - a wak in - - Cassidy - with his little brownish whisker hole smudges made me wonder if you have a genetically rare calico male. Sure is a cuteh though.

@minor_ramblings - I said the same thing then read your post - I think we are both right. But your creds are better! This is asweet kitty. I would keep him in too.

Who ever adopts this sweet kitty, make sure they know to use sunscreen, of his nose and tips of his ears. I had an all white cat at one time. Be careful with the sun.

The gender-bender problem is quite normal for me. I have met a lot of cats who were thought to be female but were male. "Misty" is now "Mr. Misty" and some of my friends were lucky enough to have gender-free names like "Lucky".
