guremike says: Ani is our male Scottish Fold kitten. In April 2008, here in Tokyo, we were looking for a cat to add to our family as a foster parent in an Internet community. Then I met Ani. It seemed like we were made for each other, and meeting him changed my life. His name means "big brother" in Japanese. He is an affable kitten, but kind of timid and a real handful too. His likes include people (especially women), milk, and toothpicks. His dislikes include mint and being ignored.

What a cute kitten, and what a joy he must be! Beautiful pictures, although I wonder if he's another breed apart from Scottish Fold. Where are the folded ears? No matter--he will bring joy to your lives no matter what breed he is. May you enjoy him for many happy, healthy years!

his face is so adorable...you can see that it is the same face of the scottish fold...not all scotty kittehs' ears are folded...the genetics aren't always foolproof, and besides, who could pass up the obviously great purrsonality of this cutie?!?!?!

Not only are all Scottish Fold cats not folded, but you need the unfolded type. Genetically if you breed 2 folded ones, the defect that causes the ears to fold can lead to deformities in the spine. So you mix fold and not-fold to avoid that.

I know that here in the states the breed standards for the Scottish Fold and American Shorthair were the same (not sure if they still are)except for the folded ears. So, we bred the two together to avoid genetic problems. The litter was then considered Scottish Fold regardless of the ears of the kittens being folded or not.
