Scooter at Kitty City

Scooter says: "My name is Scooter. My doctor says i have a condition called FeLv. I feel fine and just want to play like all the other kittens! I hope I get my new home soon!!"

eddenton says: Scooter's mom, Saratoga, was a stray that wandered to a home in Tularosa, NM, where a nice lady rescues cats but had too many and asked for our help. We took Saratoga and Scooter along with five other beautiful litter mates. Saratoga tested neg for FIV/FELV but scooter and the other kittens tested positive for leukemia. It is very sad as they are so cute and healthy looking. Anyway we have adopted two already, but still have Scooter, Shacker, Cammy, and Pretty Girl.

So sorry to hear that he has FeLV, but he can still have a very loving life! At his young age, he may be able to build up an immune response and live a longer life =) Go Scooter!! Hope you find a furever home soon =)

We've had four or five kitties with FeLV. In all cases, they were dying, and we made a tea that was a tablespoon of catnip and two tablespoons red clover petals (dried powder) in three cups of boiling water, cooled and then mixed with their drinking water (and got them to drink some). They started eating and drinking again and recovered. Four of them lived for an additional two years- and I think if they hadn't caught bad "kitty colds", they may have lived longer (compromised immune system). The fifth lived for an additional year.

I hate that disease and wish they'd spend money on trying to find a treatment or cure. I've heard that there are other things that also help...

Scooter is so handsome. Some FeLV catties live for a long time. I hope that he finds a forever home without other cats. I feel so sad when I hear stories like this, at least he is warm and dry and will get the care that he needs, as he is off the streets now.

We have Scooter in a foster home at the moment with two of his littermates. Two were adopted and Shacker the 6th littermate is sick with a URI and has been staying with our vet. His littermates are equally beatuiful and i will send in some of their pictures also and maybe they will get posted some day! Thanks for all the kind words. Young kittens showing FelV + may throw the tendancy when restested several months later. My vet and I just ran a field trial on a kitten with a fairly firm positive and he was already old enough (almost six months) to have lost the kitten tendancy. We administered Interferon alpha 2a, 7 days on, 7 days off for seven cycles, waited 3 months to retest, totally negative. Maybe luck, maybe substance, but worth retrying. God bless and good luck.

SCOOTER GOT ADOPTED TODAY !! A very nice older gentlemen adopted our little Scooter and has gone to his forever home. Thank you, Lord.
