He isn't exactly a kitten anymore, but we have had him since he was about 4 months old. His mother hated all other cats except her kittens and the people who had her had to get rid of her. Two of her kittens were left, so we took the family. Pepsi, the mother, did not work out for us as she beat up our poor old calico Silver girl quite badly and we gave her away to another family where she did well. The female kitten disappeared one day and we never did find her again, but the male, Friskey, stayed and is now 14 years old. He hates other cats, like his mother, but not to the point he beats them up. He just lets them eat and then either goes away and hides or chases them away. He now lives with our daughter, his 'Mom,' and comes to visit us on holidays, and he growls and hisses at our two Siamese cross boys but doesn't try to hurt them. In case you are wondering, we were not told that Pepsi hated other cats when we got her. We were told that she was out in the shed with her kittens because she didn't like to be in the house, which suited us fine because we have a huge partly wooded country lot for cats to play in when they want to be outside. I later found out that the people who had them had given them away twice and they were returned because of the mom's hostile attitude toward other pets. Poor Pepsi! It makes me wonder what happened to make her that way.
