A Sunday Morning my sister's boyfriend called to tell us he had seen an abandoned kitten litter by the side of the road on his way to work. Without hesitating, we grabbed a cat carrier and went to their rescue. The poor things were barely a month old, could hardly open their eyes and were crying for their mom. We took them, cleaned them and started bottle feeding them every couple of hours. It was exhausting! But so worth it! After taking them to the vet and making sure they were alright, We started looking for homes for all three. Tomasinho, the little black one, was the first to go, we had him only for a week. Then, Totoro, adopted by a friend who could not resist a pic of him I posted in Facebook. Three weeks on, I finally found a home for Simcha, who had been feeling lonely and cried all the time to be held, even trying to climb into my arms all the way from my ankles!! I miss him the most.
It wasn't my first time rescuing cats. My own two, Mina and Thelonious, were rescuees. I would keep more if I could, but everytime I can I take orphans in and find them a home. Even cats seem to sense this, as new ones arrive ever so often, if only to spend a quiet night under a bench in our porch and have a nice wholesome meal before carrying on their way.
