Karen says: Karen says: I don't belong to a rescue group, I just foster kitties that seem to come my way. If they are taking kittens to the animal shelter or someone dumps them off at their home, I take them and put out my "Kittens" sign. Not a perfect system but our shelter only adopts out 20% (the rest are put down) so it seems like a better way to me. I hand out cards for our low-cost spay/neuter vet and strongly suggest they get them done. I try to do what I can.

My friend Kay is the owner of a mom-cat, who is just called Momma. She is a semiferal barn cat that came to Kay's house from the farm next door. She doesn't let you pet her but she eats and has her babies in Kay's garage. This three were born last summer and were quite friendly kittens (unlike some of litters). Kay named them Peanut, Sassy, and Sweet Pea. Sweet Pea was adopted by neighbor for her granddaughter and renamed Riley. I rehomed the two boys to new families.

Hopefully Momma is trapped, spayed, and released immediately! These are precious kittens and you are awesome to step in and help. The only answer is Spay/Neuter.

Thank you so much Karen for all you do for these feral catties. I too,, wish that the Momma cat could be trapped and neutered, as she does not have much of a happy life always pregnant.

Karen, I admire what you are doing so much. Keep up the good work on behalf of these sweet creatures. These "shelters" that kill 80% of their kitties are not shelters or worthy of the name. And you see that the babies are safely rehomed. Proud of you.

If these shelters receive government or public funding, they should be immediately unfunded. Or sent to Australia, where the country is set to kill 2 million stray cats--birds of a feather! This is sickening.

What a beautiful group. The story though is bittersweet. Poor mom lives in a barn and keeps having kittens. Why isn't she spayed? The shelter isn't really a shelter. More like house of death for most. Kittens may or may not end up in good homes. Kudos to you for doing what you do. Wish humans were more responsible.

Had to pick this one because momma is so pretty! A 20% shelter is not a shelter to me. It is a killing machine. God bless you for trying to save the ones you can. Makes me cry to think of the others.......

I keep looking at this sad little face...almost like he knows the fate of cats without homes. I am sure if momma could have been caught, you would have had her spayed. Hang in there girl..you are all they have.

Our "shelters" are pretty much the same, although they claim otherwise - one even claims to be no-kill, but animal control officers have told us they deliver surreptitious loads of kitties to the pound to be killed (so they can claim to be no-kill themselves).

At the same time people in this county are advocating for the killing of cats and strenuously fight against TNR. Go figure.

I just wish more people would do what you are... and realize that when they don't get their kitty fixed (and drop it off in a poor neighborhood), either they're making life harder for the people there, or condemning their kitty to a slow and cruel death.
