Foster mom Joan says: This is Ali. He is currently living with his mother and three sisters at PS9 Pets in Brooklyn. The babies are six weeks old and Sophia, mom, is less than a year. The family was pulled from Animal Care & Control in NYC by the tireless cat rescuer, Eva Prokop, when the babies were about one week old. A few days after we got them, Sophia developed an upper respiratory, and then Ali, at two weeks old, came down with pneumonia. He began mouth breathing so we rushed him to the vet where they gave him a couple of injections and sent us home with more penicillin injections for three days.
This is such a nice story, I have to backtrack. Before Ali became critical Sophia removed him from the litter so we all thought she was rejecting him. However, every time I found him out of the box, Sophia was with him. I kept putting him back and she kept taking him out… but she stayed at his side! So we decided to set up two boxes and immediately Sophia began going between beds, nursing the healthy and the sick. She is the best!
Anyway, his name is Ali because he is such a fighter and champ. I decided on his name after the second night into his crisis when I couldn’t find him in his kennel. (He kept moving away from the heat source so I didn’t sleep much.) I found him between the kennel wall and the blanket and he felt very cold. When I pulled him out he was limp in my hand. I started rubbing his chest at which point he opened his big blue eyes and screamed so loudly, at that point I just knew he would survive.
The kittens will be available for adoption in 2 weeks and we really hope to place the amazing Sophia in a great home as well. You can contact us at ps9pets@gmail.com.
