Catherine says: I began fostering kittens for the Lort Smith Animal Hospital Melbourne, Australia, in 2007, about a year after my beloved Smoggy passed away at almost 18 years of age. No kitty could ever replace him, so I thought fostering little ones in honor of Smoggy would be a better way to make a difference... saving lives one kitten at a time.

After returning my fourth foster, a grown-up boy named Sir Purrsalot, to be adopted out (he was!), my fifth foster litter arrived. One minute there's no kittens… the next, there's five! Another little batch of lovelies -- two ginger boys and three blackish girls. The girls were needing eye treatments and antibiotics right away. I was a little worried about having another large litter… could I do it? But these guys were all very happy and social so it ended up being a breeze.

Milly was the smallest of the five and I didn't understand how because all she did was eat since from the time she arrived! With a spring in her tail and boundless energy, she was absolutely always first at the dinner bowl come feeding time. She was a cutie and loved being touched. Randi was very curious, inquisitive and maybe some would say skeptical so we named him after James Randi, the famous American skeptic. He was a real character, the purrrfect all-round kitty, sweet and loving when it was time for snuggles and a bundle of energy through the day when enjoying life as a kitten. Polly was a big bundle of fur and was a very happy little girl who loved snuggling with her sisters. She also started to enjoy being a lap kitty and loved having her fur stroked and brushed. Then there was Boots. From the moment Boots looked at us… those eyes!!! I think he was used to model Puss in Boots from the Shrek 2 movie, hence the name Boots. And Cocoa... a little fluffy rocket. She had the best little fluffy, furry coat. It was like a mink jacket, the dark fur with flecks of longer white fur and then areas of grey… so glamourous and adorable. :D

All five of these beauties were quickly adopted. Yippee!! If this process has taught me anything it is that every kitty is an individual. No point pigeonholing a colour or a sex or long/short hairs (although they might like being in that pigeon hole waiting for the pigeon)… they are all simply gorgeous in their own way.

Cocoa is most unusual with her ticking and sense of pride. As my former mother in law used to say "She's a ONE." Hope she has been happily adopted.

What a diva kitten Polly is! Beautiful face wi the bright eyes and a black beauty mark on her chin. Bet this was a beauty and a half when she matured.

Bless your heart Catherine. How these babies turn out, and how they shine is directly related to the love and caring, (not to mention the constant WORK)put in by the Foster Mom or Dad.
There is doubtless a blessed place for you and all fosters when this mortal life is gone.
